Public bug reported:

new install of ubuntu
tried to play a video. didn't work. Gave some message about packages.
someone in the help channel said it was because I installed ubuntu without
restricted extras.
I tried to launch totem, but totem wouldn't even open without saying stuff
about needed software.

to fix this bug, totem should at least give an intelligent error
message. I shouldn't have to talk to a developer to figure out why
totem won't launch.
