Title:
Ubuntu 12.04 gnome classic pan
I would like to know if somebody has found a solution to this or at
least if the problem is with gnome-panel or the compiz plugin. Disabling
the plugin is not possible to me since I really need it, I'm using it
to place some applications in place along a dual monitor after login.
Thanks people!

I can replicate problem with any youtube video playing at anytime.
Compizconfig has an option to disable 'place window' and it works like a charm.
Haven't notice any other change.

This bug causes fullscreen mode to be almost useless for me. Whether
it's the clock, window list, or workspace pager, my panel comes back
almost instantly after I trigger fullscreen mode

I think I have the same problem. Whether it's a Flash video or wine
application, anything that tries to use fullscreen mode has the top and
bottom gnome panels showing and covering up the application/video. Am
using Gnome3 with effects.

If it helps in any way, I came to the conclusion that the "Place
windows" plugin is called even for windows that are already on the
screen, and not only for windows that are new, and that it changes the
position and size of the windows, so that the remain on the screen and
not overlap the panels.
I can reproduce here also:
- Youtube fullscreen always has both top and bottom bars.
- Totem DVD fullscreen will initially have bars, but after 5-10 minutes the
bars will appear over the fullscreenness. Turning off/on fullscreen hides them
again for another 5-10 minutes (repeat until end of film)
turns out removing the clock applet didn't solve, it's there again. drat

Can confirm that for me it was caused by the clock on the top pager
updating while using the place compiz plugin, for now have removed the
clock (++rightclick remove from panel), that's stopped it
popping up. I think the problem is with place plugin though and there's
a bug report here https://bugs
that does stop the window placement/panels in full screen problems but
it makes my windows look ugly, and turns off things I use a lot like the
ring switcher compiz plugin, which is worse. for me anyway

I use gnome-panel with 12.04LTS.
When using fullscreen Adobe Flash player I see the top menubar plus the
bottom starus bar, plus I get some strange pointer behaviour (cannot
reach the bottom part of the screen) when I use XBMC mediacenter.
However, all these problems went away when I logged in us
same here had all these probs, had thought it was all being caused by
the place windows applet in compiz (which worked fine in 10.10)
interesting about the clock if that has to do with anything.

The behaviour is also affected by the "Place windows" ability of Compiz.
If you turn this feature off (by CCSM), the problem doesn't occur, but all new
windows are placed at 0,0 coordinates (I'm not using any other WM, besides
Compiz).

I can reproduce this, with a little difference, though - the video
starts in fullscreen just fine, but after some time (might be a minute
or half an hour, don't know what causes it) the panels (I am using two -
at the top and and the bottom) pop up.
