I tried #12, it does not fix the problem. When I unplug AC, it thinks I'm
closing the lid (based on settiing) but when I actually close the lid it does
not suspend but just turn off lcd.

My changes are merely moving VLC from calling gnome-screensaver directly
to using xdg-screensaver. I have no idea if it fixes the problem - it
depends what xdg-screensaver internally does in the GNOME desktop case.

Rationale for SRU: this bug prevents people from setting up PPP
connections. network-admin is not included on the default install, but
it's really useful for users with traditional modems (not sure
ModemManager works in every case). The fix has been committed upstream
and only adds a GtkCellRendere
I got it: the combo box is always empty because there's no cell renderer
in it. Quite astonishing that you're the first to report this problem!

Here's an updated version of Jame's original patch, which used
g_find_program_in_path() to check that gnome-about-me is present. If
that's not the case, the normal password entries are shown, just like we
do for other users than the current one. The patch was written in such a

I tried what you said and it didn't work the files are still there
I can create files and put them in trash and can get rid of them except for
those particular files
What originally happed was, I was copying an old dvd to the hard drive because
it had some files that were bad
when it was cop
I've just tried to reduce screensaver activation time to 1 minute, and launched
several tests:
It does not affect mplayer (v4.4.1, no GUI, vo=xv, waited for 3 minutes and no
screensaver activation)
Screensaver activates with VLC (1.0.2 goldeneye) after just one minute.

This problem occures if those directories are NOT on the same partition
which Ubuntu is installed. The ones which inside the root (/) are

The CPU Frequency Scaling Monitor 2.28.0 manual (in 9.10 Karmic) is
somewhat out of date.
The Introduction page of the manual has Figure 3, which shows "Frequency
selector showing both frequencies and governors". These are no longer
divided
ubuntu-desktop is a metapackage, that does not contain anything. It is safe to
remove it.
You can then just mark it for installation to see if something new was added to
it's dependencies, and then decide if you want to install this something
manually, without actually installing ubuntu-desktop
I'm not so sure this is an Empathy bug. Since when the Indicator Applet
crashes, there's no way to get empathy back without re-loading the
application. What the indicator applet needs is support to bring back
original tray icons if it crashes and hide them away when it's brought

When a file is added to the mail the reciever sees the file (document
xx.doc) as garbage and when the mail is sent as a copy to myself also
the file looks as unreadable. It happens also if you send the mail
forward.

Could you please provide a backtrace when the problem happens (i.e. have
someone IM you while you are runnung gdb) by following the instructions
at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace. As far as I know there should be
sounds and this is definitely a bug.

i'm experiencing the same behaviour as dlgandalf.
playing the same media with a xine based media player work flawlessly,
i'm missing totem-xine !

I can confirm this issue too.
I have this problem watching video from vlc. Watching video from totem have not
this bug.
