As a workaround, http://parcellite.sourceforge.net/ seems to be solving this just fine somehow, while even giving the expanded functionality of being able to go in history of clipboard (so you can ctrl+c, ctrl+c, ctrl+v, ctrl+v) while being very lightweight (4.7mb for me atm with indicator-applet
