I have an /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf which had in it:

If I do use kms, I have found no way to launch X since mid-2011.

I have a laptop Asus K45A. Just installed Ubuntu 13.04 daily 2013-02-16.
And after every reboot, the screen brightness is set to maximum instead
of keep the way I'd configured it before the reboot. Really annoying.

I still have this issue in Xubuntu 12.04 LTS with Matlab R2009a in the
xfce4-panel. The main matlab window and the editor window. I have to use
Alt+TAB shortcut to access de window because it dissapears from XFCE
Panel. Any ideas?

Did you try changing settings from alsamixer in terminal?
I selected audigy from the sound settings then whent into alsamixer and changed
the tone to on and after that you have to change the audio level for pcm that
your using and master.
I don't know where you can select your primary sound card

pageflip used for the tear free update of the scanout. The solution is
obvious, but just tricky to implement in an efficient manner that also
