Neat, I played with this a bit but didn't get that far, happy to leave

I guess there are a few issues here - here are my thoughts on them.
- Seems to hard depend on grilo's tracker plugin. I removed the package
dependency and it didn't work very well; couldn't add local med

I found that installing the nvidia-modprobe results in BOINC detecking GPUs
again.

Yes, I did install it under 13.10 I suppose. However, I did not use it
very long and did not see the XFCE screen again when I was switching
back to unity. The behaviour described aboved started to occur after the
upgrade to 14.04.1.

I'll mirror the above reports, I'm using a Intel Corporation Centrino
Advanced-N 6205 on Linux Mint 17 (Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty), I recently
upgraded from 12.04 Linux Mint 16 (Ubuntu 13.04 Saucy) using a complete
clean reinstall and now the problem manifests.

system freezes. This happens on attachment or detachment while booted

including some package with that background file. Are you sure you
uninstalled all those packages? If not, what makes you think you found a
bug?
