I am running Ubuntu MATE 16.04 x64 Alpha 2. In network manager, I added
a new mobile broadband connection ("Bob" in "Austria") after
successfully unlocking the SIM card of the modem using modem-manager.
After the last step in the wizard an error message is being displayed:
I had this problem upgrading from 15.04 to 15.10 with a Radeon 7570
card. Andrew Green's solution above worked for me!

I am using Ubuntu MATE 16.04 x64. I did a fresh install, but
nevertheless, lightdm seems to be unconfigured/broken. After every
attempt to install software using apt-get, the following error is being
