The backslashes were caused by a bug in cups-browsed (package cups-
filters) which I have already fixed before release of 16.10. So after
once removing these entries manually, they should not show up again and
show the crash should not occur again.

I've found I can get Unity8 to render in virt-manager (Qemu/KVM) with

No, nothing i know of is happening to solve this bug.
The bug report on bugzilla seems to wait on this bug report and nobody are
working in it here.
I have tried to contact a couple of people to get some attention to it but to
no avail.
