Actually logout can occur without any cable manipulation or turning on/off
external monitor. Few times it already happened to me with just lock screen

I seem to have the same problem on Ubuntu 17.10,
firefox-57.0.4+build1-0ubuntu0.17.10.1. I get random crashes about twice
a day. The crash is usually accompaigned by a gnome-shell crash &
restart. I observe no suspicios activity such as eating up too much RAM
or a high CPU usage before the crash.

other issues (tearing in videos) with drivers 304.137.
The alternative is to keep nvidia drivers 340, and to downgrade the
kernel to 4.4.0-109: nvidia drivers 340 work fine with kernel 4.4.0-109.
