As you probably now know most applications that you can be installed
from the Ubuntu repositories. There should be no meed to download from
an application's own website. Always use a package manager such as
'Ubuntu Software', 'Software Center', Synaptic, or apt/ap
It works well... There are several bugs filed for this beavior. Maybe
indicator-application package should be marked as conflicting for
something newer or so, so that it gets removed upon dist upgrade.

I did try installing FireFox a couple more times but with no success.
More recently i installed it using the snap and it appears to be
functioning fine.
I always assumed that I had some 'artifact' of a previous FireFox install
or another application that caused this prob
Well, the new 4.15 kernel has that problem. I still have a 4.4 kernel as
alternative, which does not have that problem. Something in between has
gone bad. This does not really narrow it down enough to know the cause,
but it's not the drivers or the hardware or other software alone.

drivers. The gpu temp might only indirectly show cpu temps for my
thinkpad, since they both are connected to the same heatpipe. Hot cpu =>

a different area to that of the .deb. I wonder if you have some settings
in the ~/.mozilla directory owned by a user other than you. If you still
