I have a Soundcore Life Q30 headset and had a similar issue; I also
tried going down the ofono route and found it too much of a confusing
nightmare.
I ended up using the pulseaudio backport from
https://launchpad.net/~smoser/+archive/ubuntu/bluetooth/+packages and
also doing a local backport of
@Pat: This issue got upstream's attention at last. The upstream fix
consists of two commits, and they apply fine in jammy (tested in the
PPA), but would require some work for focal.

If the user tries to save the output of a scan to a filesystem that
doesn't have enough space, Simple Scan gives no error message. It
silently creates a truncated or empty file.
