Have updated to Kubuntu 22.04 Jammy recently and it turns out that xdg-
open fails to open in Chrome both from terminal and applications
that use.
I haven't checked whether it works with other browsers so far.
Versions:

- xdg-mime 1.1.3

The bug is also effective on ubuntu 20.04.3 - fresh installation with all
updates. But it wasn't effective prior updating.
After downgrading xserver-xorg-legacy and xserver-xorg-core from
2:1.20.13-1ubuntu1~20.04.3 back to the version 2:1.20.13-1ubuntu1~20.04.2, the
problem seems to be gone.

I installed gnome-remote-desktop 42.3-0ubuntu1 and successfully
completed both test cases.
I request that this update be accepted into jammy-updates now because we
believe that this update fixes the issue which paused the previous
updates's phasing.
I am beginning to wonder if this is more of a local to me problem as I have
just installed the flatpak beta version of Thunderbird 102 and get the same
error message that Thunderbird is already running.
I will try the tar ball version next.

Got it, thanks for the explanation.
At least we know the overwrite doesn't happen, which removes the
potential security issue out of the equation.
To be honest I'm not completely convinced it was exploitable, but I'm
not convinced it wasn't either, so better play it safe and patch it out.
