Also happening to me with xdg-desktop-portal-gnome installed. For me it does
not seems to be related with chrome apps.
#29 fixes the issue for me but it should be a last resort as this affects
performance.

After i upgraded from 19.04 to 19.10, i faced the same problem, even
with syncing turned on for my account in Chromium.
Here is the output when the problem still existed:

Just saw this with a resized Nautilus window: When trying to rename, the
search box pops up in the bottom right corner containing the characters
i just typed, so it seems Nautlus is stuck in a directory/file "search
mode".

This is not 100% tested, but i just found out, that Skype windows are not
corrupted, when i launch my Java app with openjdk-8.
I experienced the problems running Netbeans and openjdk-7.
So i installed the packages "openjdk-8-jdk openjdk-8-jre openjdk-8-jre-
headless", changed my Netbeans config t
I can confirm the relation to Java based apps. I'm back on Ubuntu
(default) session and i still experience this problem when Netbeans 8
(Java based) is opened. After i close Netbeans, Skype windows are not
corrupted anymore.

your default browser", even when i select "Set as default" or "Don't ask
again".
Chromium is set as default application for "Web" at System Settings ->
