Here is a work-around which fixed the issue for me:
1. In the stable version (in my case Ubuntu 14.04 AMD 64 kernel 3.13.0-44),
open Additional Drivers then select the X.Org X server Nouveau display driver.
2. Allow the setup to complete. Reboot system. Confirm driver is working.
3. Reboot into
Ver similar/identical issue with my Acer Desktop System running Ubuntu 14.04
AMD64 dual screen with Nvidia driver ver 331.113.
Upgraded the kernel to 3.13.0-45 today (6 Feb 2015) and GUI (Gnome Desktop)
freezes after logon. Also 2nd screen appears to be be dead.

This problem also affects Ubuntu 14.04 AMD 64.
I recently upgraded the kernel to 3.13.0-45.
Nvidia module is not built: there is no
/var/lib/dkms/nvidia-331/331.113/3.13.0-45-generic.
No errors reported in the apt logs.
As a result the desktop screen is blank.

I also have a HP 430 G3, on Ubuntu 15.10, kernel 4.2.0-23. Same issue (no
sound).
Above solution from Simone (14-12-2015) failed to work for me.
But the following does work and has the advantage of persisting.
1. Create a new modprobe.d file:
/etc/modprobe.d/intel.conf
2. Add these entries:
Hi to Simone.
I do not believe the alsa_setup.sh is required (I did not need to use it)
