Having very similar issues to carlossl.
Running Ubuntu 13.04, an EPSON LQ-1070+ (running the LQ-570+ drivers, which
work fine) and a QinHeng Electronics CH340S USB to parallel connector.
On a 12.04 machine I could use the printer with the regular parellel cable.
The only real difference is that

I simply can't start Nautilus
I did run it from the command line .. i unfortinately can't reproduce
it. (I restarted for other motives and it solved itself)
The message was something like: Wrong type ... bg(s{av}) instead of
bs(savb) or something similar.

running Unity.
I switch workspaces a lot so i found it usefull to be able to switch them even
quicker by assigning the directions to the arrow
