One of the problems here is that several very useful GUI applications
which have always run as root don't have alternatives to replace them,
but also they don't have the developers available to convert to a non-
root frontend + root backend

Yes, yes I have four 1280x1024 monitors in one row. After I switched all
outputs to digital ones (as seen in xrand.log), the resolution reported
by xdpyinfo is wrong -- negative. Expected resolution is somewhere
around 96 dpi and definitely not -2147483648.

While keeping the Xenial HWE stack on Ubuntu Trusty (14.04), I tried

It seems it really broke with the Wily kernel (4.2.0.42.34). The Vivid

This is just a display problem - a snapshot is correct, so it really
looks like a radeon driver problem, instead of an xorg problem.
The wrong colors are always different, so every cycle produces a
different result. For a photo as background it almost looks like modern

It also clutters the output of 'mount', 'df', etc. to the point where
the useful stuff scrolls off the screen...

Yesterday I tried to install VLC non-free from Gnome Software and were
asked to login to Ubuntu One, which do not work as it keeps saying
Password or email is wrong. Obviously neither email or password are
worng when I'm able to write here, after signed in through Ubuntu One in
web browser - People
