I've been running chromium:latest/beta since 20240918. I haven't had any
issues, so it looks like whatever root cause, it gets fixed in beta.

i noticed that i was behind a kernel update, so i moved up, saw it
happen again on -45-generic
switching to beta channel now to see if it reproduces there. I've also
snagged a few more warnings that pop up in journal on first launch:

I agree with vorlon in general. It is a bit odd to not be seeding snapd
by default, since snaps are a recognized package format. preseeding
snapd will bring in its base, but there's no guarantee that base will
match any other snaps.
