I have not noticed this in Ubuntu 14.04.1 until now because I had
previous been using Openbox (LXDE Desktop Environment), but after
switching back to Unity I noticed this.
I haven't seen any issues prior with any OpenGL programs under the LXDE
Desktop Environment nor so far any artifacts/glitches
The workaround I am using to this bug is simple:
Copy /var/lib/AccountsService/users/root to /var/lib/AccountsService/users/user
