When I relogged into the computer (had a broken kernel install and few
other things that failed during upgrade process because of this
exiting), re-ran sudo apt update it managed to finish the update and
install firefox and all the broken packages that were left. But it did
cancel/abort the system

I experience the same behavior as described above. I've also noticed
that when the external tool is set to save "Current document", it
doesn't actually save the current document upon being run.
