I hit this problem just running gnome-screensaver & on the command line
seemed to kick it back into action so that ctrl + alt + L now works
seems its not started at boot.

just an update not sure what happened but laptop now freezes just after
alsa-state in the boot process using kernel, 3.13.0-4-generic.
so its may be trying to load the wrong driver, not sure if there is a kernel
parameter i can add to stop this ?
blacklist alsa module perhaps ?

okay now got it working with the intel driver using the settings below.
add to linux boot params in grub video=VGA-1:1368x768
create the below then your desktop will work with intel driver
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-monitor.conf
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "T100 Display"

Okay but what do you need if I don't use that option I can not see
anything so what do I need to do to get the logs ? Or look into it
further ?

looking in windows device manager, its reported as Intel SST Audio
Device (WDM) using realtek_fw_sst.bin it does not seem to tell you the
model in windows how ever.

tried 13.10 and 14.04 both do not load the intel driver. to reach a desktop you
need to specify nomodeset and fbdev at boot and remove the vesa driver.
the vesa driver just corrupts the display, if you have any suggestions for me
to try fire a way and i will see what i can d
i can also confirm this does not work on 14.04 as of today
