In Ubuntu 14.04, I had the same error page trying to use ML-1660 driver. As suggested, I used CLP-310 driver, and there were actually two of them, one marked "foomatic" and one not. I chose foomatic and indeed, it works (I set resolution to 600x600 as was suggested, didn't try 1200). One differenc
