Title:
GNOME SHELL graphics corruption caused by nouveau driver when using 3D
  accellerated graphics function (galluim)

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-nouveau” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Initially i'm sorry for my english but i try to write the best
  description I can ;)

I have a fresh installation ( fully updated) of Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit on
a DELL XPS M1330 machine with Core 2 Duo t7500, 4 GB ddr2 RAM and an
  Geforce 8400GS graphics card.

I use gnome shell 3.6 as my main desktop environment and a nouveau
open-sorce graphics driver because if i use a NVIDIA closed source
driver the graphics performance on GNOME 3 are terrible!

I have not identified an a particular action that trigger the problem,
sometimes during the normal using or sometimes when i log on the DE many
graphics elements of GNOME SHELL are corrupted and the system going to unusable.
For corrupted elements I intend that the elements same as the gnome's top
bar, icons, apps's menu bars or full desktop are not drawed correctly. THIS
PROBLEM FORCE THE SYSTEM TO GOING UNUSABLE.

I tried to restart the gnome shell with the embedded command ( ALT +
F2 -> r ) but rarely the problem solves. Also i tryed to restart the
gdm subsystem and/or the X subsystem but i have obtained the same
results as the previous method. anyway the problem is only resolved
temporally and it appear again more times during the working session
to finally happen that the system must be restarted.

If i use a gnome classic DE without effects (3D) the system not
present any types of the precedent problems but i can't use gnome
  shell DE!
