Finally! The issue was definitely in the graphic driver. I purged the
nvidia-440 (which, by the way, was the suggested open source driver) and
the issue was gone using the standard Nouveau driver. I reinstalled the
nvidia driver from terminal, and the funny thing is I wrote nvidia-
driver-435* but
I also uninstalled the following extensions:
drop down terminal
dynamic panel transparency
gsconnect
impatience
open weather
text translator
the only extensions left are (they all came preinstalled):
user themes (on)
ubuntu dock (off)
ubuntu appindicators (off)
desktop icons (off)
