Good catch. The description of the behavior is very similar. Following a
review of that thread, I did some more testing. Below are the findings:
Reboot the system
Attempt to log into 'Ubuntu' session
Screen goes black for 2-3 seconds and returns me to login screen
Attempt to log into 'Ubuntu on
My fault. A little to quick to hit 'x' in vi. Attached is a new syslog
file that should have debug properly enabled.

My system uses Intel graphics and the default driver. The graphics

physical id: 2
bus info:
It's improved, but still present. It's most obvious when moving the mouse
around because the cursor blinks slightly. There was definitely improvement
and it's useable now, although refresh artifacts remain.

I can confirm that I am seeing the same behavior when using a USB
DisplayLink monitor and Unity. I upgraded to a mainline kernel of 3.12
to get it working, and see the flashing mouse and slow graphics
behavior. uname -a output is:
Linux RJG-Satellite-U945 3.12.0-031200-generic #201311031935 SMP
So apport-collect didn't work since I'm not the reporter. Instead of
submitting a new bug, let me know the best way to attach what is needed
to this bug. Thanks.

Public bug reported:
When running a USB DisplayLink monitor as a second display, the mouse
cursor blinks and graphics update slowly. Graphics return to normal once
the USB display is disconnected or disabled.
