This was a long time ago. Laptop is long gone, so is that release. I didn't realize this bug was still open. I can't see any reason not to close it at this point.

The symptom is that after upgrading from 8.04 --> 9.10 I could no longer suspend or hibernate. So, after installing "pulseaudio-utils" I tried to suspend again and all works now.
