It appears that occassionally my external GPU 'falls off' the bus, it's
listed as not primary, so should not be an issue.
However, a few minutes (usually) after this occurs, the Xorg server or
window manager completely locks up in strange ways. For example - the
mouse can
cross a Thunderbolt 3 link.

there is a driver problem we are chasing, and PRIME was just
selecting the NVIDIA GPU for some reason and flailing ..'
Hmm running into a bit of a snag :

When connecting with Nautilus to "smb://hostname.lan/" note - not the
full path to the samba share, and this is a resolvable ".lan" name
handled by the local DNS server - then gvfsd fails, and doesn't send a

Update, I found that CUPS was failing to be modified by the gnome(?)
user interface component.
apparmor is getting in the way, "protecting" cupsd.
To fix this, install the apparmor utilities:
sudo apt-get install apparmor-utils
Then set apparmor to complain about cupsd, instead of blocking
If not already clear, I cannot print properly -- this setuo is somehow
preventing it.

Bluetooth pairing reports established using bluetoothctl, but the sound
device is not available on the Ubuntu device(?settings) manager.
Only the existing speakers (non buetooth) are showing as sound outputs
(sinks).

gnome-display-properties I believe is the application in foreground. I
was using it normally, then switched the screen resolution scale to 100%
(down from 200%). I had a Chrome window open which now had the inner
icons
I have applied the workaround for mutter :
MUTTER_DEBUG_FORCE_KMS_MODE=simple
I am seeing no further logs at the moment. I will continue to monitor
for issues.
To address any low-level issues I also have applied the system firmware
update, available via ISO from the Lenovo support site
