** Description changed: It happens intermittently. Some times after a kernel upgrade it boots fine, but immediately after the screensaver turns on the screen gets - black with the backlight on. + black with the backlight on. After a good boot it returns to booting to + a black screen.

Public bug reported: It happens intermittently. Some times after a kernel upgrade it boots fine, but immediately after the screensaver turns on the screen gets black with the backlight on. The system is working while the black screen is on. I am able to log in and shutdown via console (blindly)
