happened in the end. I reboot into low graphics mode, where i am not even able
to choose from one of the choices but am immediately thrown into a command line

1) the solution for legacy cards (2xxx-4xxx) does indeed work
2) but the second solution only works for users with only a AMD/ATI GPU. Anyone
who has a ATI/Intel hybrid card can only use the open
