This issue has recurred in all successive releases of TB on 11.10.

My Dad has a POP email account in Thunderbird 7.0.1 under Ubuntu 11.10.
After resume from suspend (on same network; cf bug #795342), when he
clicks "Get mail," the Thunderbird statusbar only says "Connected to
my.server.com." Thunderbird is not hung--buttons are responsive and
@john-m-hancock, thanks for mentioning that, as I forgot to. My dad's
mail sends fine as well; we simply don't know how to make the message
stop.

In my case, the problem happened thus: My dad has POP email and uses
Evolution. After I upgraded him to Oneiric and installed the version of
Evolution present on it, the application asked me to convert the mailbox
format, so I did. Now, whenever he sends an email, this message pops up.

I also desire to see this integration. The default XUL notification does
not fit in with Ubuntu's general polish. Perhaps this doesn't fit in
with the Natty (now Oneiric) timeline, but it seems like @chrisccoulson
has noted that something does need to happen. Can we rework this bug to
fit what need
