Laptop does not suspen
If I try to suspend from the menu, my screen goes blank but the laptop
does not power down. The only course of action is to force a shutdown
by holding the power button down.

Suspend works when selected in the menu though.

Laptop does not suspend upon
I would like to add that this bug occurs during each Ubuntu release
cycle. This is the third time running for me (at least), starting with
11.10.
Thankfully it has been fixed relatively quickly each release. Hopefully
the same happens with 12.10.

It's happens to me too, the difference is. To me suspend on closing
laptoplid hasen't worked since linuxkerne 2.6.38.8, not sure what Ubuntu
version, but guess 11.04.

For what it's worth, the laptop does go into suspend when using the menu
in the cog-shaped applet in the top panel; however when the lid is
opened the computer returns to an unlocked desktop rather than to a
password prompt.
