I have reproduced the problem with firefox 14.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 in
precise-updates and have verified that the version of firefox
14.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.3 in -proposed fixes the issue.
I installed firebug, launched firefox, opened various application

Firebug prevents it from happening; enabling Firebug crashes Firefox
