I have the same problem with totem. Therefore, I imitated the procedure
to generate a dump. Hope it helps:
paul@klipperaak:~$ GDK_SYNCHRONIZE=1 gdb -q totem
Reading symbols from /usr/bin/totem...(no debugging symbols found)...done.
(gdb)
(gdb) run
