You made this bug report in 2012 and there have been several versions of
Ubuntu and Thunderbird since then.
Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the
ticket?

the buttons can be fixed by choosing "customize" and then "restore
default set" button at the bottom of the icon box. this restores also
the "reply-all" button...
