Gnome-screensaver should be started by default. I'm not sure why it
wasn't for you. I'm closing this bug, since you've figured out the
problem you were having.
Please feel free to reopen it if you can reliably reproduce this issue
in a default installation.

I added "gnome-screensaver" to the startup programs ; this solved the
problem. But it should be done by default.
