I experience the same issue. If I open a pdf file attached to an email in Thunderbird and save it through Evince, then the Permission Properties list: Owner: Me Access: Read-only Group: "my name" Access: None Others: "Null" Access: None Here is my setup: Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description: U
