The problem seems to be fixed in Ubuntu 14.04, so I would recommend just
upgrading once it's officially released.

I was having the same problem and was able to fix it by building and
installing the ibus packages from the trusty sources.
Perhaps installing the trusty packages directly will work too.

To be honest, this bug makes it difficult to use ibus in Ubuntu. It's
