scanimage is a functional frontend for the N670U.
Other frontends (simple-scan, xscanimage) I've tried fail to return the scan
head or produce a black image with no scan head movement.

I to have the same scanner using Ubuntu 12.04 and Elementary OS Luna and
neither of them work. Well they scan but the image is Black.

Hi Michael,
I have tried other scanner applications, which use xsane. None of them
work. I agree that it is a xsane-backend problem. How do I re assign
the bug to a different package?
Also the scanner used to work in 10.04 so it should be fixable.

thank you for filing this bug and showing your interest in Simple Scan!
This seems to be a Hardware Issue, i.e. Simple Scan does not support
your scanner perfectly -- or possibly not at all.
Unfortunately such problems happen more often then they should, and while it
