Chris,
I tried your fix, openbve-leezer3 and I got the following:

Chris, I've just tested your version on Ubuntu 14.04 32 bit. I installed
it and ran it from the Terminal and I got this:
http://pastebin.com/yVfDMbRi
Then I manually created the /usr/share/games/openbve/Data/Plugins
directory. Then the program stated, however without textures, and it
said 144
Something's odd there then, I'll have to investigate further with a clean VM
rather than one I've been messing with.
The cause of the error though is that it's looking for the plugins in the
Debian location rather than the Ubuntu location (Have you been fiddling with
environment variables at
No, I haven't done anything to the system variables. I copied the contents
of /usr/lib/openbve/ to /usr/share/games/openbve and textures now appear.
However, there are still 5 errors:
*FileName contains illegal characters or is empty at line 99 in file
I have just tested OpenBVE on Ubuntu GNOME 15.04 64 bit daily image and
also Ubuntu 15.04 32 bit daily image. These are the steps I did:
1. I ran Ubuntu GNOME 15.04 / Ubuntu 15.04 from a live DVD.
2. I installed OpenBVE from the Software Center.
3. I launched OpenBVE. I was able to select a
This version should now work:

I tested the daily image of 15.04, this bug is present there too.

Same persiting problem with ubuntu 14.10 64 bits
OpenBve package 1.4.0.9-1
I don't think there is any openbve developer any more

This is sadly not even been addressed I take it that the developers
of both Ubuntu and Openbve don't really care about this issue.

A further update from me-
Rebuilding libgdiplus from a straight checkout of the Ubuntu source appears to
fix this error.
It would be nice for someone else to confirm this :)
If this is so, can someone trigger a straight rebuild with a version
number bump; I wonder if something got out of sync in
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

So, I've been doing some digging.
The issue is with the current release of libgdiplus
(2.11+git20131008.9732566-5ubuntu1)
Specifically, I think the change that broke things is this:
[5e251c5] Ensure PNG transparency values are initialized. Thanks to
Tom Hindle (LP: #1296786) (Closes:
Thank for you work! It looks like good solution.
I have installed like this:
sudo apt-get remove libgdiplus
sudo dpkg -i /tmp/libgdiplus_2.10-3ubuntu1_amd64.deb
sudo apt-mark hold libgdiplus
sudo apt-get install openbve
RUN openbve
It seems to works!

I confirm, installing libgdiplus from Saucy fixes the issue, OpenBVE
works after this workaround is applied.
To help others, the Saucy libgdiplus package is available here:
