Hi,
I have this same problem, can anyone help please?
Im running an ATI Radeon Cedar HD5450 graphics card and using the open
source driver, I've tried a fresh install of Unity.
The freeze mainly happens when I'm using Video, so I figured it would
probably be something to do with the Graphics car
Same problem too. ATI video.

I also have (this?) problem with GNOME3 and Ubuntu 14.04
I have Radeon HD5450 and open source radeon driver. It freezes occasionaly
(every 30 min or so). I have to wait for half a minute or so and then system
becomes responsive again. I tried using proprietary driv

What exactly does that mean?
I have installed the PF-Kernel, based on the 3.14 Mainline Ubuntu Kernel, and
I've never had a freeze again!
Except for some troubles with Flash in Firefox, that made me force close the
browser, the freezes never happended again!
hangs are driver specific
