xsetwacom --list
That may print nothing, from what I can see the X230t doesn't have a
wacom touch screen, but I'd like to be sure.

Sure. The X230t has three wacom devices:

Wacom ISDv4 E6 Pen stylus id: 11 type: STYLUS
Wacom ISDv4 E6 Finger touch id: 12 type: TOUCH
Wacom ISDv4 E6 Pen eraser id: 16 type: ERASER

As I said, all three of these devices generally work fine. For example,
I can use all three of them with Xournal just as expected. Onbord fails
to read the finger taps from the touch device.
