Same thing happened to me on Lubuntu 14.04, not just with chrome/chronium but with multiple applications (firefox, hipchat, chromium...). Interestingly, only parts are overlaid with artifacts from the application on the previous desktop. I have an GeForce GTX 770 and ran 331.38. I've upgrade to
