Using openbox and have similar problems.
Update nvidia driver to version 340.32 from ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa solves
the problem.

Same thing happened to me on Lubuntu 14.04, not just with chrome/chronium but
with multiple applications (firefox, hipchat, chromium...).
Interestingly, only parts are overlaid with artifacts from the application on
the previous desktop.
I have an GeForce GTX 770 and ran 331.38. I've upgrade to
this trouble exists on Lubuntu.. how to fix?

Workaround works for me too (turn of accelerated graphics in Chrome),
but it's still a bug with acceleration turned on.
Drivers say they're version 331.38 (Recommended by driver engine).

available.
Fix this issue in My environment.
But if you did this, can't use hardware acceleration.
