I am seeing something completely different and for me the issue is with
usb_modeswitch first:

Modem can function HiLink, but in the firmware MTS (Russian operator) was no
such possibility.
I flashed modem on the universal firmware and installed WebUI.
Now the device has other PID and VID:
Bus 003 Device 005: ID 12d1:14dc Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.
Connects and works fine
Even my modem stopped working after latest update. Removed ofono and
installed modemmanager and modem is working again.

usb_modeswitch has done all it should do , switched the dongle from initial
mode (cd-rom only) to modem mode ( usb id 12d1:1506 ).
The syslog clearly indicates a NetworkManager error so the bug report should go
there and mot be filed as a usb_modeswitch bug.
