xscreensaver is a daemon, and that's never going to change. If you want
something that locks your screen that is not a daemon, then xscreensaver
is not the software for you.

I'm using Ubuntu 14.10 dev with xscreensaver 5.26-1ubuntu2 and normally
xscreensaver must run in the background to be able to lock the screen.
If xscreensaver is not running and the screen is trying to be locked
this happens:
