Had the same issue with an ASUS S551LN (Realtek ALC233, Internal Mic, combo
microphone/headphone jack).
After playing around a lot, the following settings in the alsamixer finally
seemed to do the trick:
1) Playback-Mic: 100%
2) Playback-Mic Boost: 0%
3) Capture-Capture: 100%
4) Capture-Mic

I have same problem on Asus X550L.
When I change microphone port in 'pavucontrol', from microphone(internal) to
microphone(unplugged), i can hear sound from internal microphone, but its very,
very quiet, even with maximum boost of 11.00dB
External microphone dose not work at all.

This does not solved the problem.
