Okay, I think we can take this bug upstream as it probably is not cause
by something Ubuntu has modified.

I have tried to use that page, but was not helpful (nor especially
clear).
In *my* lsusb there is no 14fe id, nor 157c id. In my syslog there is a
line stating that usb_modeswitch *did* switched the modem - without any
udevrules-patching. ("usb_modeswitch: switched to 12d1:1506 on 1/3")

No luck. Booted from a live vivid pendrive (iso md5sum:
40493fb5d594606908dcda45624161f7). Added a new broadband connection and tried
to start it. No internet.
The old modem works (log attached), but the new does not.

Would you please be able to test if this problem also apply to the
latest development version of Ubuntu by testing a daily live CD?:

I see that it contains a newer version of modemmanager (1.4), which
might have solved the problem.

Looks quite good in the log, but could you post the part of "lsusb -v"
for the unit? I'm wondering if it is missing a network interface, as it
tries to dial using "*99#".
