seem xps 15 9530 specs and quick startup guide does not mention that
the combo jack can be used as mic jack, why do driver create headphone

FWIW, I installed kernel 3.17 from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v3.17-utopic/ which seems to resolve this issue.

This may be a simple dup of #1252733, although my specific hardware is
different.
Specifically, the hda-verb invocations from comment 34 make the
background noise go away:
