How are you building the package? Using the packaging commands, i.e ./debian/rules build? I ask because if you are running configure make etc by hand, then the configure process may not be finding the GTK and GDK libraries, which are in a multi-arch aware path, i.e /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu. --
