I have found a setting that controls the random freezes, at least on my board. Disabling "IGD Turbo Enable" under NorthBridge options in the BIOS. Otherwise, the BIOS is set to the defaults. Different kernel .configs had no effect. I have enabled all Baytrail options and boot from an EFI stub.
