I probably solved this issue with: 1. Edit /etc/default/grub -Changed line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" into: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash video=SVIDEO-1:d" 2. sudo update-grub 3. sudo grub-install /dev/sdX 4. reboot

I have the exact same problem after installing a fresh version of 17.10 with Xubuntu on 2 laptops with the same graphics card running the i915-driver. It happens randomly. The desktop just freezes for some seconds. Previously running 16.04 with no problem. Kernel: 4.13.0-17-generic x86_64 bits:
