2018-12-12 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yes, in fact we can say with some confidence that the issue was probably fixed in a later Gnome version since no one else is reporting the issue in 18.04/18.10. If only we knew what fixed it and where then we would be able to backport that fix :/ ** Changed in: gdm3 (Ubuntu) Status: New

I did some tests with 18.10 but the problem did not occur. Since the bug is intermittent, these tests may not be significant. Please leave this case open to future updates. ** Changed in: gdm3 (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => New ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status:

Testing 18.10 would help us the most in the short term. But in the long term be aware that 18.04 has a longer support life: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases ** Changed in: gdm3 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete --

Can you please try Ubuntu 18.04 and tell us if it has the same bug? http://releases.ubuntu.com/18.04/ I feel this is most likely a bug that was fixed some time ago. And certainly if you're using Gnome Shell then we recommend Ubuntu 18.04 or later. ** Package changed: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu)

Daniel, When I was running 16.04.0 with the same mods described in comment 3 and with the same monitor BUT with an older computer, I never got this problem. When I installed 16.04.5 (new install, erasing everything) on a newer computer BUT with the same monitor, I started getting this issue.

Oh, it is gdm3. But being Ubuntu 16.04 an older version than what we support in 18.04 onward. So I would expect extra bugs in 16.04 that we haven't seen before. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in Ubuntu.

No I haven't. Is this really about an animated gnome-screensaver or just the screen lock? If the latter it might be better to assign this to 'lightdm'. ** Description changed: Plain text Linux user id password exposed in calculator input box. The first character of the password is
